DINA’S COLE SLAW

Given that my Mom is my inspiration in all things, this felt like the proper place to start. Her signature dish. From church pot lucks to work functions and social gatherings, this was by far, my Mom’s most requested dish.

Please don’t revoke my Southern card. My family makes this recipe with Hellman’s mayo. But you do you!

DINA’S COLE SLAW

So sweet and so creamy. The perfect accent to North Carolina BBQ. This calls for a lot of sugar, but I think it’s the reason her recipe was so popular!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium head of cabbage
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed (not celery salt!)
  • 3 tablespoon sugar (heaping)
  • pepper to taste
  • 1/2 – 3/4 cup Mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the cabbage in a food processor and put into a mixing bowl.

  2. Add the celery seed, sugar, and pepper. Mix until the sugar dissolves.

  3. Stir the mayonnaise into the cabbage mixture.

  4. Chill for a few hours or over night is best. Adjust the sugar and mayo to taste before serving.

Recipe Notes

Recipe may be doubled or tripled but if you are combining the batches, cut back on the sugar and mayo slightly after the first batch.
