If you’re like me and you A. are not a real baker and B. hate all the hype about Fall, then you may not need to invest in a whole container of proper Pumpkin Pie Spice. The good news is, you can make your own! The following combo will you get you damn good substitute:
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
Now. If you really are NOT a baker, then you probably don’t have all these spices on hand and you may as well just grab the pumpkin pie spice. If not, you’ll be shelling out for 4 spices instead of one.
If you do decide to buy or make your own pumpkin spice, make sure you put it to use! Here are a few more ideas to make it work for you.
- The
poor girl’sSkinny PSL. Sprinkle a little in your coffee. It won’t taste exactly like a real pumpkin spice latte unless you load it down with cream and sugar. So just roll with it. Save the money AND the calories! - Stir it into your waffle or pancake batter. Because why not?
- Pair with butternut squash or sweet potatoes. PPS is the perfect accent for squash soup or mashed sweet potatoes. (Add some dried sage for a savory balance!)
- Make Pumpkin Chili! A healthier version of a fall classic.
- Pumpkin Bread
- Toffee Pumpkin Layer Cake
