PUMPKIN PIE SPICE

If you’re like me and you A. are not a real baker and B. hate all the hype about Fall, then you may not need to invest in a whole container of proper Pumpkin Pie Spice. The good news is, you can make your own! The following combo will you get you damn good substitute:

  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves

Now. If you really are NOT a baker, then you probably don’t have all these spices on hand and you may as well just grab the pumpkin pie spice. If not, you’ll be shelling out for 4 spices instead of one.

If you do decide to buy or make your own pumpkin spice, make sure you put it to use! Here are a few more ideas to make it work for you.

  1. The poor girl’s Skinny PSL. Sprinkle a little in your coffee. It won’t taste exactly like a real pumpkin spice latte unless you load it down with cream and sugar. So just roll with it. Save the money AND the calories!
  2. Stir it into your waffle or pancake batter. Because why not?
  3. Pair with butternut squash or sweet potatoes. PPS is the perfect accent for squash soup or mashed sweet potatoes. (Add some dried sage for a savory balance!)
  4. Make Pumpkin Chili! A healthier version of a fall classic.
  5. Pumpkin Bread
  6. Toffee Pumpkin Layer Cake

What other ways are you sprinkling this fall flavor into your autumn days?
